Psion Launches IngenuityLive! as IngenuityWorking.com Marks Six Month Anniversary with Huge Industry Participation Rates
Psion’s IngenuityWorking.com community leads open innovation revolution in mobile computing, creating a new model for product development
19 October 2010
London and Toronto, 19 October 2010 – Psion (LSE: PON.L), a global provider of mobile computing solutions, today announced that their industry-first, online collaborative community and social network has received more than 112,000 unique visitors and has grown to over 8000 registered members since its launch six months ago. It regularly achieves over 35,000 visitors each month. Called IngenuityWorking.com, Psion’s community is expanding every day, with hundreds of new members joining and almost 4,000 development discussions underway. Members are openly working together to transform how products in the industrial mobile computing market are developed and deployed. In a September survey of 300 Psion partners, over 90% stated that IngenuityWorking.com will help their business through collaboration and the market insight it creates.
John Conoley, CEO, Psion, said: “IngenuityWorking.com is quickly becoming this industry’s most important collaboration centre, development network and business tool. It already goes far beyond Psion and everything we thought it could be as part of our Open Innovation strategy. Users, partners and developers are online 24x7, driving discussions on every facet of our industry. The shared insight and interaction is unparalleled. It represents an entirely new approach to product development.” He continued: “It’s possible that it may almost entirely replace our traditional dotcom web site fairly soon.”
“IngenuityWorking.com enables us to keep in constant touch with Psion’s entire worldwide development community,” said Dominik Rotzinger, Managing Director of Warok GmbH, Germany, a leading distributor of automotive ID solutions. “The key advantage of IngenuityWorking.com is that it provides a vehicle for sharing information and ideas, but also expertise and thoughts, 24 hours a day. One very useful additional benefit of the community is that local expert developer partners can make requests to their suppliers, and even Psion direct, for the features they require to meet the needs of the markets they serve.”
Psion’s IngenuityWorking.com is a combination of an online community with almost 4,000 live discussions, coupled with its own built-in social network. It is bringing together users, resellers, developers and Psion’s own staff to create new solutions, as well as adapt and create devices and discuss market segments and strategies. Users share insights and expertise on everything from hardware and software to innovative technologies and best practice.
Launched in March 2010, IngenuityWorking.com has experienced strong growth and continues to attract new members representing every kind of end-user, reseller and developer across the sector. The site is on track for gaining over 38,000 visitors in the month of October, with the average visitor staying for over 6.5 minutes, following almost 4,000 discussions and well over 700 distinct technology articles that have led to nearly 1.5 million page views since the site launched.
October will also see more than 10,000 new visitors discover the community via popular search engines. Members are exploring articles on everything from RFID development and the latest supply chain issues, to the rise of the Android operating system. There is also an increasing volume of more social commentary and issues, proving that this is a community that has more than work in common. The user base spans the globe with less than 40% of the traffic coming from the Americas; and the remaining from Europe and the rest of the world.
In addition to the success of IngenuityWorking.com, Psion has also just launched IngenuityLive!, a new online application store for industrial mobile computing solution developers to promote their offerings in new and innovative ways. It not only provides them with an opportunity to advertise their own solutions, but also enables them to find complementary solutions from many other developers, globally.
Tony Jephcott, Managing Director for Blackroc Technology in the UK, said: “As far as IngenuityLive! is concerned, I see this as a key vehicle for Blackroc to keep Psion’s channel up to date on new developments related to the Psion range of mobile products. It’s another sign of Psion’s commitment to open innovation and I see it as a key element of our dealing with Psion in the future.”
Patrick Brandt, CEO of Telligent Systems, whose applications power both IngenuityWorking.com and IngenuityLive!, said: “Psion represents a company on the leading edge of this concept as not only do they recognise the value of communities, but they have incorporated IngenuityWorking.com as a fundamental strategic element to their business. We’re delighted to be a strategic partner with Psion as they change the way customers do business in their space.”
