Summit and Psion Teklogix Achieve CCX Version 4 Certification
Provide full compliance with Cisco Unified Wireless Network
28 January 2008
Akron, Ohio, U.S.A. – Summit Data Communications announced today that its SDC-CF10G compact flash radio module has been certified for Version 4 of Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) for ASDs, or application-specific devices. Summit is the only provider of wireless LAN, or WiFi, radios that have earned the Cisco Compatible seal on Windows CE and Windows Mobile®, the leading operating systems for mobile computers and other business-critical mobile devices.
Summit also announced that two rugged mobile computers from Psion Teklogix have been certified for CCX V4 using the SDC-CF10G radio. Those computers are the Second Generation WORKABOUT PRO handheld computer and the 7535 G2 handheld computer. According to a Psion Teklogix spokesman, other rugged mobile computers from Psion Teklogix will be certified for CCX V4 in the near future. Summit also plans to earn CCX V4 certifications for its other WiFi radios, which use the same software as the SDC-CF10G radio.
“We are pleased that our rugged handheld computers meet the stringent Cisco Compatible Extensions Version 4 requirements,” said James Poulton, director, product management, Psion Teklogix. “CCX V4 certification ensures seamless integration with Cisco infrastructures to deliver security, mobility, quality of service and performance management, all of which can bring great benefits to our customers.”
Cisco is the leading supplier of WiFi infrastructure products, and so organizations that use business-critical mobile devices need the assurance that those devices will interoperate with a Cisco WiFi infrastructure. CCX is a program that tests not just interoperability but also support for Cisco WiFi innovations for enhanced security, mobility, quality of service, and network management. Products that pass all CCX tests earn the Cisco Compatible seal.
To exploit innovations on Cisco’s flagship WiFi infrastructure solution, the controller-based Cisco Unified Wireless Network, the WiFi radio in a mobile device must support CCX V4. If the radio supports a CCX version lower than V4, then the network will not support certain CCX features for the client, even if those features were introduced prior to V4. By using devices with Summit radios, an organization can leverage all Cisco WiFi innovations introduced through CCX.
“Today’s businesses use a broad range of devices that require wireless connectivity,” said Chris Kozup, Senior Manager for Mobility Solutions Marketing at Cisco. “The continuous evolution of the Cisco Compatible Extensions program ensures that wireless connectivity is seamless, secure, and manageable. To ensure a consistent user experience, organizations should look for devices that support a current version of CCX.”
An in-depth white paper on the value of CCX for mobile computers is available in the Documentation section of the Summit Web site, www.summitdatacom.com. For details on the Cisco Compatible Extensions program, visit www.cisco.com/go/ciscocompatible/wireless.
