Philips Lighting Distribution (PLD), with headquarters in the Dutch city of Eindhoven, supplies logistical services for Philips Lighting’s production units and sales organization throughout Europe. It ensures that both supply and delivery chains are optimally organized.

The Challenge:
- PLD required a solution that could handle the 70,000 items it processes each day fast and efficiently
- A solution needed to:
- be compatible with PLD’s existing Materials Access and Resource Control (MARC) and ERP systems
- provide system security and real-time asset visibility
- withstand harsh warehouse conditions
- help workers perform their jobs easier
- PLD also desired quality future support in maintaining the system
The Solution:
- PLD implemented a solution around Psion Teklogix’ broadband radio frequency system and rugged handheld and vehicle mount computers
- Wireless access points were distributed throughout warehouses to ensure optimum network efficiency
- ERP sends order requests to the MARC which then delivers the request to employees on their Psion Teklogix terminals via wireless technology
- With the use of their handhelds, employees can:
- quickly and easily determine the correct pick-up location of items
- confirm the correct item was picked
- check that the actual stock corresponds to the data in the MARC system
- Psion Teklogix received online access to its systems over a secure Internet connection to facilitate maintenance support from a distance
