LONDON 25 October 2010 - Psion (LSE: PON.L), a global provider of mobile computing solutions, today announced that Clear Channel France has deployed more than 800 Psion Ikôn PDAs to help its technicians in the field with the daily real time management of its electronic billboards.
Clear Channel France relies on the responsiveness and efficiency of its team in the field to ensure the quality of service to its customers. The ruggedness and ability of the Ikôn to withstand extreme conditions including high falls and humidity make it ideally suited for Clear Channel’s field technicians. In 2009, Clear Channel began rollout of the Ikôn to its operational technicians in France for order management, a process that was previously conducted via paper slips.
Today, Clear Channel technicians use the Ikôn along with software from Psion partner Rayonnance Technologies to receive orders and to report back on the display, cleaning and repair of its billboard panels up to 54,000 times each month. The technicians can also use the Ikôn to take photographs of the billboards being serviced. This information then synchs directly with Clear Channel France’s information system via a secure GPRS network. Due to the successful deployment of the Ikôns in France, Channel has also begun to use the Ikôns in Belgium and Ireland.
Geraldine Navarre, director of Research and Development in Organization and Information Systems Department at Clear Channel, adds: “Our technicians have quickly adopted the Ikôn as a natural extension of their daily activities due to its ergonomics, ease of handling and reliability. The Ikôn PDAs also provide us with unmatched strength and technical performance in terms of brightness, autonomy and communication. The device is perfectly suited to the needs of our business, including cost savings.”

Navarre concludes: “In addition to the ability to view information related to our 140,000 billboards, with the Ikôn our teams in the field are also able to be more responsive to customer requests and upon detecting a problem with one of our panels, we can now quickly submit a repair request and assign it to our nearest technician in the field in real time.”
