US Tire & Exhaust Selects Rugged Mobile Computing Solution from Psion and DNS Technologies Inc.
Automotive Supplier Increases Reporting Accuracy and Elevates Customer Delivery Service with Psion WORKABOUT PRO
13/02/2007
Mississauga, ON, Canada – Psion (LSE: PON), a global provider of solutions for mobile computing, wireless data collection, imaging and RFID, announced today that US Tire & Exhaust, a division of US Oil Co. Inc, has implemented a custom mobile computing solution jointly developed by Psion and DNS Technologies to record the delivery and invoicing activity of its delivery fleet in real-time.
The mobile computing solution is achieving for US Tire & Exhaust near-perfect delivery and invoicing accuracy, while continuing to increase the number of customer deliveries per day.
US Tire & Exhaust, which delivers an average of 100,000 tires per month, is leveraging the Psion WORKABOUT PRO device equipped with the Delivery Notification Software application, MobileLink from DNS Technologies Inc., to track customer shipments at eight of its warehouse locations across the US. The new joint mobile computing solution enables US Tire & Exhaust to manage each facet of the delivery process from delivery itineraries to proof of delivery reporting functions.
"The automotive tire industry is challenged by a growing marketplace and increased delivery demands, so it is imperative our customers receive accurate supplies on time," said Allan Jahnke, database administrator, US Tire & Exhaust. "The new rugged mobile computing solution provides us with the traceability and digital invoicing capabilities required to guarantee exceptional customer service."
Previously, the US Tire & Exhaust delivery fleet relied on a traditional paper invoice system which was prone to logistical and accounting errors. The new tailor-made solution enables the delivery fleet to capture and deliver information in real-time by leveraging the WORKABOUT PRO’s wireless data and signature capture capabilities. Delivery workers can now download customer routes, invoice customers on the spot and provide proof of delivery reports quickly and seamlessly, giving them more time to make additional deliveries.
"We are extremely pleased that our WORKABOUT PRO device is helping US Tire & Exhaust meet the rigorous demands of the North American automotive parts delivery business," said Ron Caines, President, Americas at Psion. "Together with delivery software market-leader DNS Technologies, we are enabling US Tire & Exhaust to provide first-class customer service."
Flexible ergonomics, user-friendly interfaces and the ability to withstand the rugged delivery environment were among the key reasons US Tire & Exhaust selected the WORKABOUT PRO as its primary mobile computing solution. The mobile computing device also offers a range of simultaneously supported radio options including WWAN (GSM/GPRS, CDMA), WPAN (Bluetooth) and WLAN (802.11b). In addition, the WORKABOUT PRO has an IP54 rating and can withstand multiple drops from four feet onto concrete.
"We are excited to be working with a global leader like Psion," said David Lin, president, DNS Technologies, Inc. "The Psion’ versatile hardware combined with our Delivery Notification Software, MobileLink, provides US Tire & Exhaust with a best-of-breed solution that helps ensure flawless deliveries and accurate reporting."
